My family and I stopped by the so-called "New" Joes Place this past weekend. I’ve see it done before, and much better might I add (i.e. Portillo’s, Buona), so nothing really “new” to see here.
There is a butcher shop on site, which I thought was a pretty cool idea. I have heard though, that it is a little pricey. The food was mediocre at best. If you enjoy diarrhea, might I recommend the cheese pizza or hot (not!) wings. Two people from our party had the runs within the hour after eating there. I'm guessing it was probably the cheese, or it may have been the crappy (pun intended) attitude of the manager, who was too busy preparing food to come and talk to us when we had a legitimate comment on one of the meals. We had stopped one of the kids that was working there and mentioned to him that one of our meals wasn't really what it was advertised to be and that we would like to see the manager. We weren't complaining that it was not good or anything like that. His immediate response was "Well I didn't make it." Is there something wrong with that comment? He could have said something less sarcastic like, "Ok, let me go get the manager for you." Anyway, we stopped the same kid a little while later to ask him if he had mentioned it to the manager, and he hadn’t, so we again asked him to have the manager come to the table. The kid came back a moment or two later and stated that the manager was too busy preparing food and he would be by eventually. That same kid also told us that the piece of “frozen” cheesecake we had ordered was “always” served that way. And I mean frozen. I could barely cut it with a knife. I’ve never been served frozen cheesecake, anywhere, period.
I could see at any given time at least eight or more people behind that counter milling around, and the place was not busy. I immediately knew that he (the manager) was going to play the waiting game and not come out, hoping that we would leave. Well, as my family began to leave the table, I sat and watched for a couple of minutes and saw him peeking out from behind the counter. He wasn’t moving around all that much, and I didn’t see any food being prepared by him through the glass part of the counter. Smooth move guy. You are on my list for “Manager of the Year!”
One last thing, I just wanted to mention that there is a game room (if you can call it that) in the basement. I’m assuming that they have some type of banquet area upstairs, but I never checked into it.
I hope the “New” Joes Place enjoys my $36.97, because it the only money they'll ever get from me or my family. I'll really miss the "Old" Joes Place. Oh, wait a minute; I was never even in there so I guess I won't.
Repeat after me... Chocolate cake! Chocolate cake!
