A look at how our governments, both state and federal, have been failing us:
1. Sept. 11.
2. What happened in New Orleans. I'm not even going to argue whether the state or Bush is at fault. It's both. Neither had the people of New Orleans in mind, which is apparent by their actions.
3. The Patriot Act. It is amazing how many of our rights were lost to this. You can't even go to the bank and open up your very own account without being forced to by law to provide proof of who you are! That should be no one's business - its your money and your account, not the government's.
4. State's and Cities who are allowed to get away with freedom of speech violations, like closing down their town newspapers, etc.
5. Having to buy stickers, proofs of registration, fees such as school book fees for free education, etc. Not everyone can afford them and it puts an undue strain on those who do not have the money.
6. Our court system. If you were unfairly arrested and you get a cheap or court appointed attorney, then the system works to have you convicted and not everyone has the money to get a good attorney or fight false charges. This means the system works to the advantage to those who can do something and leaves those with not enough money to fight this, like Kathy Leonard in Crystal Lake who got 10 years in prison, out.
7. Towns who hold secret ("closed") meeting sessions in order to get away with doing what they want without people's input.
8. Towns/Cities who prevent third parties from running and taking part in debates during election time, which forces people to vote for only Democrats or Republicans and no one else. This has happened in Crystal Lake, where the libertarian party had a candidate who was not allowed to take part in the debates.
9. And, of course, our own town situation with Crawford. It's ridiculous that the state again found him free of blame and that out town gave him severance pay and a good reference.
